I had the crazy idea of cleaning my email account last night. Now, one might think this is an unremarkable chore. Heck, one might say I need to get a life. But being weird and all, I had a hoot checking out emails I sent to a lot of people in different times and phases of my life. It was a treasure trove of memories, I tell you.
For example, it reminded me how many men I know actually dared to ask someone out through email. I saw an email that an old colleague of mine wrote which pretty much sealed the fate of a certain PM of ours back in ’06. I saw a couple of angry emails I sent to a couple of bosses of mine. Unfortunately, I got to see several write ups I did back in the day and Good Lord, they all sucked. I cannot believe someone actually hired me to write for them, it boggles the mind.
However, just when I was about to delete most of the old stuff I kept, I came across a failed project, one closest to my heart. I was hired to write a bunch of stuff for a comic strip, an idea that an old friend of mine was cooking up back then.
You all know all I ever wanted in life was to be a cartoonist, right? Well, when fate led me to a different path, I never really thought there would come a day when I’d be asked to do what I’ve always dreamed of doing. That rare chance to do something you really love, it’s so foreign to me. And then, it came one day. You think that maybe it’s not too late, there is that opportunity that may not turn things around for you, but it is close. So damn close. I took that chance, tried my best and I thought I did well.
Unfortunately, the project never panned out. It just didn’t materialize. The write-ups never saw the light of day. It was left here, in my email account; forgotten for several years. I was as disappointed then as I am now but I feel that one day, a similar chance will come my way. God, I’d be so stoked and shit.
So, I downloaded the file which contained the thing that I wrote. I felt a rush of excitement as I waited for the goddamned thing to DL completely. The strip is mainly about a new hire who will be working for an asshole boss. Together with the protagonist is her unnamed co-worker, who shows her the ropes, while spewing venom all over the place. The strip was intended to be funny but it’s not that funny actually. But I like how it turned out and I’m already working to get someone to do this with me.
It would’ve made a great strip. Of course, I’ll post them here one day 😀
