Fun fact: each year, I celebrate my cat’s birthday by dressing him up and serving cakes and ice cream to everyone (my other two cats, included).

This year was no different, the husband and I dressed Dimitri as the evil pig from Angry Birds. Of course, Dimitri hated every second of it but that didn’t stop him from noshing on his fancy feast! His younger sibs loved the FF too!

This year, we had cakes, vanilla ice cream (Dimitri’s favorite summer treat), and roasted chicken. My mom was so sweet, she made pancit (noodles) for my kitty. In Asia, serving pancit on birthdays is a tradition. It means wishing the birthday celebrant a long, healthy life.

Dimitri’s aging gracefully but I always feel a tinge of sadness whenever I notice how old he’s becoming. His coat, once silvery and shiny gray is lighter now. He gets grumpier and grumpier every day. He’d rather snooze all day, lazily gazing through the window for birds, than play with his younger sibs.

My only consolation is the fact that he rarely gets sick, he’s so healthy! Cheers to you my black pearl, may we both live forever!
