Rants and Raves

Overhauled My Desk

*This was first written in 2024 and I’m literally just picking up where I left off*

The project started when my ugly old headphones (which was missing an earpad, BTW) stopped working. I thought to myself, I ought to buy a small speaker instead so I can enjoy some music while working without all these damn wires.

It snowballed from there.

I like to keep myself busy with little projects like randomly overhauling my entire work space – mostly because I love decorating + buying crazy useless shit online.

I have not updated my system for at least 7 years!

The goal was, a space that’ll inspire me to be more creative.

Also, the wires always bugged me. So I decided on a wireless speaker bar and redo the rest of my office.

This setup is the *older* of the new version

My original setup was all-black and quite frankly, the look is dated and tired. I initially wanted a pink and white setup but decided for a more versatile, all-white system.

Getting all the equipment online was kinda nightmarish mostly because I had zero idea what specs and dimensions to look for.

After taking care of the speakers, I moved on to the computer monitor and CPU shell. I wanted an even smaller CPU case but could not find one – mostly because I’m ignorant on these things and just did three hail Marys hoping I got it right. Of course, I didn’t, but this one’s definitely nicer than my clunky, old CPU.

The monitor is beautiful and huge. But I was warned about the brand so I’m not expecting it to last 3 years. Which is fine by me, I don’t expect any of these to last that long, ya know?

The computer and monitor are the main components of the setup, I think. If I got that right then half the battle’s won. They are the anchor to the look, that’s what I’m trying to say.

I complemented the all-white setup with a white and rose gold mobile phone holder, cute rose gold and white accents, and of course, an art wall – something that frustrated me because apparently, these are being sold frameless.

Like, literally got the wall decors as rolled canvas, you have to buy the wooden frames individually. It sucked because I got like, a dozen of the paintings. Le ugh, you live, you learn.

I wanted the art wall to be a source of motivation because lately, I wasn’t focusing too much on writing, more into growing my online business. I wanted to go back to my roots, you know?

That’s one of the trade-off of having kids, you kinda have less time for everything else! The goal is to remind myself why I do what I do and not just to put the kids through school.

January 2025

So! I’m continuing this post with more updates.

Just to give you some context, I almost quit writing last year. I was not accepting writing jobs for several months until I lost two of my long-time gigs. I’ve spent a huge chunk of my time moping around, got to reading again while finding a client.

And because I needed a push to do all these girlbossing thangs, I finally got around (almost) finishing the rest of the desk set up.

The newer setup

I replaced the first office chair I bought and got a better one. It had to be white and gray to match everything else.

The damn wall art – this was the reason the entire project took this long to complete. I didn’t know the artworks I ordered come without the fucking frames so I had to buy those AND put them together with thumb tacks.

I put off this task for months. And when I finally did it, it took another several weeks before I actually posted them on the damn wall. The effort guysth.

I’ve gone through three keyboards since this whole project began because I could not find the perfect one and kept buying them. The Moffi one was too chunky, the second white one was too janky, and this one is the best by far. It’s a compact, minimalist keyboard to match my mouse.

Works great!

I added some stickers I bought from Japan. I’ve also decided to collect Japanese stickers and stationery so those things will definitely be a new hobby.

Check it out – The pièce de résistance! I saw something like this online a few years back and bought these LEGO things two years ago – they represent my favorite stuff – sushi, desserts, and the department store hahahahaha!

I had the hubs put these together, slapped some double-sided tape in there and popped them in my CPU.

Cool huh? I know.

And there you go, that’s my new corner. I say it’s almost complete because I’ll need a new vase for Walter, my plant. And also, might end up re-arranging the wall art until it’s perfect.

This post took a long time to finish, I hope you appreciate my effort lol
